Showing off his VORE racing team jersey is Rick Purcella of Princeton, driving again this year in the Baja 1000.
A Princeton man heads to Mexico next month to tackle one of the most grueling off-road races in the world, the 49th annual running of the Baja 1000.
This is the third attempt at the race by Rick Purcella who is driving as a member of the VORE Race Team out of Las Vegas, Nev. The race takes place on the Baja Peninsula and attracts about 450 entrants. This year’s venue is an 830-mile circuit that starts and ends at Ensenada, Calif. A second course, which will be run next year, is a 1,380-mile straight shot from Ensenada to La Paz, Mexico.
“I’m not going there to win. I just want to finish it,” Purcella said. “Nobody on our team has finished it yet.”
