Winter weather advisory

The Monday, Jan. 26, meeting of the Princeton City Council has been postponed to Wednesday, Jan. 28.

The Steve and Judy Deffibaugh Community Center, 416 N. 4th St., has been designated as a warming shelter. The shelter will open at 7 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, and will remain open during freezing conditions. Changes in status will be communicated as needed.

Registered State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR) participants who need transportation to the warming shelter may contact the non-emergency line at 972-547-5350. Residents who are not registered with STEAR and need transportation may call the non-emergency line and assistance will be provided based on officer availability. The city will also offer limited accommodations for pets in kennels or carriers.

Criteria for Opening Warming Stations:

Temperature Threshold
– Forecasted high temperatures at-or-below 32 degrees F. for more than 24 consecutive hours.
– Windchill advisories with feels-like temperature at-or-below 20 degrees.
– A combination of cold temperatures and windchill with precipitation (rain/sleet/snow).

Power Outage
– If there is a known power outage affecting a subdivision in the city of Princeton or a large area of the city of Princeton, and the estimated time to restore is over 12 hours.

Gas Outage
– If there is a known gas outage affecting a subdivision in the city of Princeton or a large area of the city of Princeton, and the estimated time to restore is over 12 hours.
