MCKINNEY — A six-point game at halftime, McKinney North outscored Princeton 21-0 in the second half to pull away for a 37-10 victory at McKinney ISD Stadium on Thursday.
A big play on special teams led to a fast start for the Panthers (1-1).
Sophomore Daiveon Brown took a few steps back, found a crease and returned the opening kick 64 yards to give Princeton excellent starting field position at the North 33-yard line. Eight plays later, senior running back Sammy Musimbe dove into the end zone from one yard out for a quick 7-0 Panthers lead.
Musimbe finished with 85 yards on 14 carries with the one score.
However, the only other points on the night for Princeton came on a 24-yard field goal by senior Anthony Armijo with 6:24 left in the first half.
Armijo’s field goal reduced Princeton’s deficit to 13-10.
North (2-0) responded with a 34-yard field by Aiden Harris with two second left in the half, a play that was set up by an interception, for a 16-10 Bulldogs lead.
Princeton finished with just 219 yards of offense and threw interceptions.
North running back John Richardson finished with 181 rushing yards and three touchdowns, two coming during a second half in which the Bulldogs outscored the Panthers 21-0 to turn a close game into a rout.
Princeton will host Newman Smith on Friday, Sept. 11 for homecoming. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Jackie Hendricks Stadium.
