Rural fire protection to continue

by | Nov 11, 2025 | Latest

The Princeton Fire Department will continue until further notice to serve the area outside the city limits while the Collin County Commissioners Court sets up an emergency services district approved by voters in the Nov. 4 election.
The city served notice earlier this year that it would terminate its contract with the county because it was not being paid enough to make runs into rural areas.
The extension came during a nearly seven-hour council work session and meeting Monday, Nov. 10, at which councilmembers tabled action on a proposal to re-implement winter quarter averaging of sewer bills. The issue will be reconsidered at the Monday, Dec. 8, meeting.
Council also tabled until the second meeting in February the expenditure of $1 million in bond money to renovate the Lois Nelson Public Library. It was hoped an alternate plan could be devised to create a learning center with the Princeton Independent School District.
Council also agreed to conduct studies to formulate a master drainage plan for the entire city, including the Ticky Creek, Stiff Creek and Sister Grove Creek watersheds. The contractor will file a progress report on the study in six months.
The meeting was recessed after 11:30 p.m. and was to continue Wednesday, Nov. 12.
