5 Panthers qualify for state powerlifting meet

Princeton has qualified five lifters for the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association Class 6A state meet.

Aubrey Arredondo was crowned Region 6-6A champion in the 105-pound weight class at Prosper High School last Thursday after a dominant performance. She posted a total of 725 pounds in the bench press, deadlift and squat.

Astryd Espinoza captured second place in the 132-pound weight class with a total of 825 pounds. Earning a qualifying berth in the 165-pound weight class was Favour Akubuogo, who placed fourth with an 835-pound total.

Sydnee Simmons qualified for state in the 181-pound class, finishing fourth with an 850-pound total.

Meanwhile, Melanie Soto Ramirez was one of six lifters in the 123-pound class to qualify for the 6A state meet. She placed sixth with a 740-pound total.

Arredondo and Soto Ramirez are returning state qualifiers.
