Less than 24 hours after a 2-1 loss to Plano West on a walk-off RBI single, Princeton’s baseball team bounced back in a big way Saturday afternoon.

Peyton Wilczynski hit a two-run double as part of a nine-run bottom of the fourth inning, and Princeton rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to defeat Plano West 9-4 at home.

Plano West had the momentum early.

A bases-loaded walk and an RBI sacrifice fly following a lightning delay gave the Wolves a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning.

Princeton refused to go down without a fight, and the Panthers’ resilience showed in the home half of the inning.

Wilczynski ignited the nine-run frame with a one-out single and later scored on a two-out single by Jaxon Watjen.

All nine runs were scored with two outs.

After an error kept the inning alive, the next three Panthers were hit by pitches, including two with the bases loaded. The final hit-by-pitch drove in a run and tied the score at 4-4.

Kayden Cochrane put Princeton ahead for good with an RBI single. Wilczynski followed with a two-run double to extend the lead to 7-4. Two more runs scored on a subsequent error for a 9-4 lead.

That proved to be more than enough run support for Brayden Hyatt. The freshman delivered a strong outing in relief. He walked the first two batters he faced in the fourth inning but quickly settled in and retired the final 11 batters to secure Princeton’s first district win. The Panthers improved to 1-11 in district and 9-16 overall.
