Coaches in District 6-6A recently cast their votes for the all-district baseball and softball teams, and Princeton was well-recognized, with the Panthers having 14 student-athletes placed on those prestigious teams.
Junior shortstop Felix Martinez earned recognition on the first team in baseball. Freshman relief pitcher Brayden Hyatt was named to the second team. Sophomore first baseman/pitcher Skyler Barnes, senior catcher Marlon Alvarado, senior right fielder Kayden Cochrane, senior left fielder Peyton Wilczynski and senior pitcher/first baseman Jaxson Watjen were placed on the honorable-mention team.
Senior student manager Ashley Hart and senior utility Nolan Harper were recognized for their hard work in the classroom by the Texas High School Coaches Association, with both Hart and Harper earning spots on the academic all-state honorable-mention team.
Seven players from the Lady Panthers softball team earned recognition on the all-district team.
Sophomore catcher Zoie Rainey and sophomore flex Dahlia Gutierrez were placed on the second team. Senior right fielder Hailey Highbarger, sophomore first baseman Fernanda Rodriguez, sophomore left fielder Kinlee Ratliff, freshman second baseman Valentina Beltran and freshman pitcher Zaniya Passini landed on the second team.
Team awards were presented to both Panthers squads during an awards ceremony that was held Wednesday, May 13.
Rainey was named the Most Valuable Player of the Princeton softball team. Junior third baseman Camila Beltran was the winner of the Core Values award. Highbarger captured Teammate of the Year. Offensive Player of the Year went to Rodriguez, while Ratliff won Defensive Player of the Year.
Career Achievement awards went to senior outfielder Isabella Alvarez and senior shortstop Emmy Pagano.
Highbarger and senior third baseman Meghan Gilbert were named the co-recipient of the Captains award.
Six team awards were presented to the Princeton baseball team.
Martinez swept the Player of the Year awards, winning both Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
Barnes was named Pitcher of the Year.
Alvarado and Cochrane were the co-recipient of the Panther award.
Senior center fielder Jordan Mosley was named the winner of the Leader of the Pack award.
Junior pitcher Garrett Turner won the Heart of a Panther award.
