Collin County Emergency Services District No. 1 is proposing a property tax rate of 10 cents per $100 of taxable property value for the 2026 tax year, according to a notice of public hearing issued by the district.
The district’s notice lists the proposed initial rate as $0.10 per $100 of value.
A public hearing on the proposed tax rate is scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Blue Ridge Elementary School, 10944 County Road 504 in Blue Ridge.
The notice states that the proposed rate is not greater than the district’s voter-approval tax rate. As a result, the district is not required to hold an election on the proposed rate.
Residents may express support for or opposition to the proposal by contacting members of the district’s Board of Commissioners or attending the public hearing.
Under the proposed rate, the notice estimates an average residence homestead taxable value of $389,821 and a tax bill of $389.82. The district’s total tax levy on all properties is projected at $12,805,434.55.
Since this is the first operational year of the ESD, the notice does not provide comparable 2025 figures for the district’s total tax rate, average homestead taxable value, average homestead tax or total tax levy.
The notice lists Kevin McGillis, Linda Backlund, Daniel Robinson, Tim Mock and Randal Shinn as members supporting the proposal.
Property taxes can be calculated by multiplying the tax rate by the taxable value of the property and dividing by 100.
For assistance with tax calculations, property owners can contact the district’s tax assessor at 972-547-5020 or visit the Collin Central Appraisal District website.
