For the second year, Christ United Methodist Church of Princeton is sponsoring a Back-to-School Bash to help less fortunate students in the area prepare to return to classes.
The event is slated for Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Clark Junior High School.
CUMC pastor the Rev. Cathy Partridge reported that more than 500 children attended the inaugural bash last year and that more than 400 have already pre-registered this year.
The church was started in Princeton about a year ago and started the back-to-school event immediately to help ensure that all students were ready for the start of a new school year.
CUMC is affiliated with Christ UMC in Plano and meets Sundays at Clark Junior High for services. Partridge said that renting a meeting place allows the church to concentrate on outreach programs instead of maintenance of a building.
Free services offered at the back-to-school event are vision screenings, immunizations and haircuts. Students must bring their current shot records with them in order to receive immunizations.
Also on tap are free healthy snacks, door prizes and school supplies giveaways.
The Back-to-School Bash is made possible through the support of donors helping ensure that all students have what they need to be successful in school.
