Princeton High School has tabbed former Irving head coach Kaylann Miller as the next leader of the Lady Panthers girls basketball program.
“What I’m excited about is the potential they have there,” Miller said. “They have a really good administration in place and strong support. I’m excited to get things started.”
Miller replaces Six Smith, who stepped down after one season. The Lady Panthers went 10-20 overall and 3-13 in District 6-6A, missing the playoffs for the first time in six years. Despite the record, Princeton was competitive, with nine losses decided by 10 points or fewer, and fielded a young roster after graduating three key starters from the previous season.
Princeton will have to replace first-team all-district shooting guard Chandler Evans, along with forwards Leah Bradley and Princess Arrey. However, the Lady Panthers return a promising backcourt with juniors-to-be Jada Childress and Rayleigh Williams.
Miller plans to build the program around an up-tempo offense and a relentless defensive approach.
“I know that they were young last year,” she said. “When you’re young, you’re going to take your bumps early. Now that they’ve experienced that, I want them to build off it and take the next step. Once we establish standards and consistency, the sky is the limit.”
