Council sets property tax rate, schedules hearing

by | Sep 10, 2026 | Area News, Latest, News

City residents will have an opportunity later this month to comment on the city’s proposed Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget and a property tax rate increase of 3 cents per $100 of assessed valuation.

Meeting in a Sept. 8 special session, the Princeton City Council set a public hearing on the budget for Monday, Sept. 21, and the tax hearing for Monday, Sept. 28.

Staff recommended a property tax rate of $0.472959 per $100 of taxable value, the voter-approval rate. Princeton’s calculated no-new-revenue rate would be $0.445102.

Since the proposed rate exceeds the no-new-revenue rate, but does not exceed the voter-approval rate, it only requires a public hearing — not a voter-approval election.
