Panthers earn top 10 finishes in Wylie

Princeton seniors and sisters Marian and Samantha Valdez continue to lead by example.

Marian ran to ninth place with a time of 19:26 in the elite varsity girls 5K race at the Dub East Invitational at Founders Park in Wylie on Friday morning, while Samantha took 10th overall in 19:29.

Junior Jillian McCarthy and senior Evelyn Escamilla also cracked the top 25, with McCarthy finishing 22nd in 20:34 and Escamilla 23rd in 20:38.

Freshman Malia Dargel turned in the next-fastest time for the Lady Panthers, clocking a 21:21, good for 31st place. Itzel Ramirez-Millan, also a freshman, took 34th in 21:23. Junior Saumya Joshi placed 42nd in 22:16.

Their efforts helped lead the Lady Panthers to fifth place in the team standings with 83 points. Frisco Lone Star, with 73 points, won the team title, edging runner-up Wylie East, with 74, by one point.

Princeton tied with West Mesquite for fifth place in the boys’ team standings, with both squads finishing with 133 points. Wylie East, with 25, captured the team title in runaway fashion. Frisco Lebanon Trail, with 87 points, finished in second place.

Sophomores paced Princeton at Wylie. Arturo Velez placed ninth with a 16:33, while Josue Silva took 22nd in 17:00.

Senior Ashton Long placed 40th in 17:50, freshman Luke Bailey was 42nd with an 18:01, sophomore Stephen Talley took 49th in 18:09, sophomore Noah Loera placed 55th in 18:58 and senior Samuel Robles captured 58th in 19:16.

In the open varsity boys race, sophomore Thaydan Fillingham captured 77th in 19:40 to lead the charge for the Panthers.

Sophomore Adrian Hernandez took 116th in 20:43, junior Davis Harper earned 118th in 20:46, freshman Braysen Cunningham placed 135th in 21:16, sophomore Jesse Lester took 141st in 21:32, freshman Jacob Pasol placed 146th in 21:35, sophomore Edmond Elder was 170th with a 23:09 and freshman Ezra Garcia took 172nd in 23:29.

Princeton also had representation in the open varsity girls race.

Freshman Zailey Fillingham ran to 28th overall in 22:44, senior Brooklyn Heller took 40th in 23:17, senior Emma Dickerson was 53rd in 23:57, sophomore Janice James captured 54th in 23:59, freshman Eliana Carlson was 55th in 23:59, freshman Leslie Torres took 64th in 24:22 and sophomore Khloe Gazar was 80th in 25:06.

Freshman Uranus Hedayat finished two spots behind Gazar in 82nd with a 25:07, junior Isabel Zamora Zamora was 91st in 25:36, senior Alexandria Ramos took 112th in 26:24, junior Haylee Carlson captured 114th in 26:30, freshman Camila Ramirez was 116th in 26:34 and sophomore Nicole Howard placed 117th in 26:36.
