Gov. Greg Abbott added stiffer penalties for illegal voting to the third called session agenda weeks after signing a bill that initially lowered it.
The governor added the item Sept. 30 after it was discovered that an amendment in SB 1, a controversial voting reform bill, added by the Texas House lowered the penalty from a second degree felony to a Class A Misdemeanor.
