In their final event before Thanksgiving, the Princeton wrestling team traveled to Lewisville on Nov. 25, and the Panthers came away with a sweep of the Farmers.
The Princeton boys outlasted Lewisville 46-36, while the Lady Panthers doubled up the Lady Farmers 36-18.
There were only three matches in the girls division, but Princeton won two of the three live matches and also earned 24 team points because Lewisville was open at 115 pounds, 120, 125 and 145. Lewisville notched 12 team points because Princeton was open at 170 and 235.
Princeton took a 6-0 lead after Nalani Mornes pinned Lewisville’s Natalie Duran in the 110-pound match. The Lady Panthers later increased their lead to 30-0 because of opens by the Lady Farmers at 115, 120, 125 and 145.
Lewisville finally got on the board as the result of a pin by Camila Fuenmayor in the 155-pound match and then added six more team points with Princeton being open at 170.
However, it was too much of a deficit for the Lady Farmers to overcome. The Lady Panthers punctuated a strong effort on the mat with a first-period pin by Addy Smith in the 190-pound bout.
On the boys side, Princeton had its work cut out after trailing 18-6 after four matches, with Lewisville winning three matches via pin. The only win by the Panthers over that span was a first-period pin by Austin Aparicio in the 175-pound match.
However, Princeton’s depth allowed the Panthers to overcome the early deficit, especially with the Farmers being open at 285, 106 and 113.
Princeton took a 35-18 lead following a technical fall by Logan Wilczynski at 120 and a first-period pin by Jeremiah Soto at 125. Lewisville reduced its deficit to 35-30 following wins via fall at 132 and 138, but back-to-back wins by Landen Fulton and Nolan Culverhouse clinched the dual win for the Panthers. Fulton won the 144-pound match by a 15-0 technical fall, while Culverhouse notched a first-period pin in the 150-pound bout.
Those two dual wins came three days after Princeton placed 12 wrestlers at the Richardson Ladies Roundup.
The Lady Panthers crowned three champions.
Erin Marquez capped off a dominant 3-0 effort with a second-period pin in the first-place match at 120 pounds. Smith also earned her way to the top of the medal stand for winning first place at 190. She went 2-0 with a first-period pin in the championship bout. Alexandria Ramos pinned Frisco’s Abbie Dresklinski in the championship match at 125 pounds for first place in her weight class.
Analee Holguin earned third place at 115 pounds, Isobella Cook wrestled to third place at 145 and Mornes earned fourth place at 110.
Soto clinched third place in the 126-pound boys division after topping Dallas Kimball’s Kamal Collins-Green in her final match. Culverhouse pinned Richardson’s Colin Murphy in the 150-pound third-place match. Fulton placed fourth at 144, D’Kylan Lovett took fourth at 157 and Aparicio placed fourth at 165.
