Princeton runners battle tough field at McKinney

Princeton competed against several talented schools Saturday morning at Myers Park in the McKinney Boyd Bronco Stampede.

Arturo Velez turned in an 84th-place finish with a time of 17:41 to pace Princeton in the boys’ elite varsity race. Josue Silva took 116th in 18:11, Ashton Long was 125th in 18:24, Eli Fisher placed 131st in 18:29 and Stephen Talley captured 164th place in 20:58.

Evelyn Escamilla turned in the top time for the Lady Panthers, clocking 21:21, good for 67th place. Sisters Marian Valdez and Samantha Valdez both completed the 5-kilometer course in 21:32, with Marian edging Samantha at the finish line to earn 73rd place, while Samantha placed 74th. Jillian McCarthy took 106th in 22:14, and Itzel Ramirez-Millan earned 112th in 22:22.

Silva, Noah Loera (19:40), Jesse Lester (23:26), Braysen Cunningham (23:21), Uranus Hedayat (26:48) and Leslie Torres (27:14) all ran to new personal best times on Saturday.

Princeton is scheduled to return to competition today in Commerce for the Commerce Tiger Invitational.
