Congressman told of teenager’s threat, arrest

by | Oct 22, 2026 | Area News, Latest

U.S. Rep. Keith Self says Capitol Police told him the FBI had arrested a McKinney teenager in connection with an alleged threat against the 3rd District congressman.
“The Capitol Police contacted me twice with alerts that included the fact that FBI had made an arrest,” Self said.
“I am grateful to the FBI and law enforcement for stopping this threat.” Self said. “My family and I are safe, and I remain focused on serving the people of Texas’ 3rd District.”
WFAA-TV cited unidentified sources that said a 17-year-old boy was arrested Oct. 5 in connection with a plan to shoot the congressman.
Self said he was not given any details about the case, but replied, “Absolutely not!” when asked if the threat would slow down his campaign.
A Republican, Self is seeking his third term in the U.S. House and is opposed on the Tuesday, Nov. 3, general election ballot by Evan Hunt, the Democratic Party nominee.
