The city of McKinney said it has signed a Use and Lease Agreement for Houston-based Avelo Airlines to serve McKinney National Airport, TKI, after work is completed on infrastructure expansion, including a new terminal building.
Groundbreaking occurred in July, and completion of the facility is expected late next year.
Avelo (rhymes with yellow), began operations in 2021 and operates a fleet of 22 Boeing Next Generation 737 aircraft.
Flights from DFW International Airport and Houston Hobby already link through Avelo’s hub in New Haven, Connecticut, to cities in 15 states as well as Mexico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
The lease agreement is for five years with an option to extend for five more years. It provides terms and conditions for the use of the runway and taxiways, aircraft parking and maintenance areas, check-in counters and office space, the city said in a release Tuesday, Dec. 16.
The city said the agreement also “sets the rates and charges for a carrier’s operation at TKI, to include a per-passenger use fee and aircraft fuel fees.”
Avelo, the first airline to commit to providing scheduled passenger service to TKI, said it would announce a launch date and destinations closer to the time the airport expansion is finished.
