The joys of new homeownership gone awry proved to be the catalyst for a Princeton author’s book, “America’s Nightmare.”
After experiencing a series of serious home and health issues, author Madelyn Awalt decided to speak out, documenting her family’s experience after purchasing a D.R. Horton home in Princeton in 2021. What initially appeared to be routine homeownership challenges soon escalated into a far more troubling situation involving alleged code violations and improper building practices, she said.
Awalt said her family began noticing unexplained health problems not long after moving into the home, including severe nosebleeds experienced by her daughter and chronic ear infections suffered by her son. At first, she assumed the issues were unrelated or common in new construction homes.
