City officials have proposed a broad increase in development, permitting and fire-prevention fees, arguing that rapid growth and more complicated projects are leaving existing taxpayers to subsidize services primarily used by private developers.
The proposed fee schedule was presented during a City Council work session on Monday, July 13, with formal action expected at council’s July 27 meeting.
Development Services Director Shai Roos and Deputy Fire Chief and Fire Marshal Samantha Jones said many current fees were established when development activity was substantially lower and no longer cover the staff, consultant and technology costs required to review projects.
