MESQUITE – Princeton picked the perfect time to put together a pair of good games.
The Panthers (9-8 overall, as of May 11) rolled 10-0 (five inning run-rule) and 3-2 over Dallas Pinkston at J.J. Tillery Field.
“The team played two of our best games that we have played all year. It was a great series for us,” head coach Russell Bowker said. “Brandon Talley and graham Godwin pitched great, we hit well, and played two of our bet defensive games.”
In the opener, the offense totaled eight hits, led by a double from Cody Walker.
Brandon Talley went the distance and gave up just three hits over five innings.
In the series finale, Graham Godwin picked up the decision and allowed four hits.
Talley and Kyle Petersen each had a double, and the team finished with five.
Things will be a little tougher in the area round 4 p.m. Thursday against District 9-4A fourth placer Sanger at Argyle High School.
“They (Sanger) are a very good team that competed in one of the toughest districts in the state,” Bowker said. “They are one of the best teams that we have faced all season, and we will have to play very well in order to win.”
The Indians enter the contest 9-7 overall, after having an opening round bye with no 10-4A to take on.
The last time that Sanger played was back on May 1 against Krum in a third-place tiebreaker.
Krum took the game 5-4 to wrap up the second seed.
Other teams from Princeton’s district seeing action are Community versus No. 6 state-ranked Argyle (best-of-three at Prosper), Bonham against Celina (best-of-three at McKinney’s Al Alford Field), Melissa takes on Krum (best-of-three at Ponder), all in the area round.
