Dozens of McKinney city officials donned hard hats, orange vests and safety glasses to get a first look at the 47,000-square-foot passenger terminal under construction on the east side of McKinney National Airport, known as TKI.

“There’s so many people with the city and the airport staff that are working behind the scenes to make all of this happen,” said TKI Director Ken Carley. “We’re seeing the physical construction in place, but there’s so many things that are going on behind the scenes, and there’s so many people that are working to make this project a success.”

Groundbreaking on the $72 million project took place July 18, 2025, and the airport was expected to be finished by the end of the year, said Mitchell McAnally of Garver, the project’s lead engineer.
