Lois Nelson Public Library is filling the summer with entertaining and educational programs for Princeton residents of all ages.

Some of the events are held in the library at 323 McKinney Ave., while others are in the Deffibaugh Community Center, 416 N. Fourth Street.

Storytelling and demonstrations have featured Ranger Rita, Ramblin ’Rita, Mr. Blue Shoes, the One Man Circus, Rope Warrior and Rob the Balloon Guy.

Reflection Entertain provided touchless games. 

Lady Tenille will offer self-esteem lessons for girls 11-15 from 5:30 to 6 :30 p.m. Friday, July 31, and Friday, Aug. 7.

Two classes in robotics were taught by Takeisha Moranza, founder of Code My Future, where she teaches computer programming and robotics to youth in the local community.  

As a technology professional, certified Texas educator and trainer with more than 25 years of experience, she holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science. She enjoys helping students discover that they are capable of learning technology, regardless of their experience.

Sai Siri Malipatel, known as Siri, said she is a passionate artist and community volunteer who believes that art is a powerful way to inspire creativity, build confidence and bring people together. 

For the past three years, she has served as a volunteer art camp instructor at the Lois Nelson library, teaching children and adults through a variety of color-based art forms, including watercolor, acrylics, oil pastels and mixed media.

“I believe that every individual has a unique creative spark waiting to be discovered,” she said. “My goal is not only to teach painting techniques, but also to help students develop imagination, patience, focus, self-expression and self-confidence through the creative process.”

The summer reading program, “Read Together, Play Together, Grow Together” began June 1 and winds up Friday, July 31.

In addition to summer programs, the library is home to the Wednesday night chess club that offers instruction and competition.
