Thirty-four Princeton High School students were certified this week as welders through the American Welding Society.
Juniors and seniors in the two-year program took the test, which evaluated their skills using a stick welder. Students had to demonstrate proficiency by welding a 6-inch horizontal weld, among other skills required for welders.
The hands-on exam focuses on consistency, as well as durability to make sure the weld holds.
The welding program is gaining popularity among students because of the multiple careers options offered, and welders are in high demand. Several students plan to expand their training through the Tulsa Welding School following graduation.
