MCKINNEY – Despite being down 24-13 in the second half, the Princeton Panthers rallied to capture a 28-24 victory over the McKinney Boyd Broncos in their season finale at McKinney ISD Stadium on Thursday night.
Princeton (6-4, 4-4 District 6-6A) quarterback Marcus Flowers threw two second-half touchdowns — one to Dakota Lee and the go-ahead score to Gabe Pattin — to help revive what appeared to be a disappointing end to the season for the Panthers. While Flowers did throw two interceptions, he also passed for 183 yards and three touchdowns.
Lee was the offensive star for Princeton, rushing for 140 yards and a score on 25 carries.
McKinney Boyd (0-8, 1-8) opened the scoring on a 79-yard catch-and-run by Timothy Karsholt after Princeton turned it over on downs inside the Broncos’ 5-yard line. The Panthers knotted the game at seven early in the second quarter, but the Broncos went up 17-7 following a field goal, a Flowers interception and a 1-yard touchdown run by Marcus Johnson.
The Panthers answered with a score of their own to end the half when Lee ran it in from 12 yards out. Once the third quarter started, though, McKinney Boyd regained momentum after a muffed punt by Princeton led to an Ugo Anosike touchdown run that made it 24-13.
That’s when the Princeton defense buckled down and shut out the Broncos the rest of the way.
Both teams were already out of playoff contention heading into the matchup, marking the end of the season for each program.
