The Princeton City Council has voted unanimously to appoint Police Chief James Waters as alternate city manager following the resignation of Jeff Jones, who had been serving in that position.
“We didn’t find out until just before the meeting that we didn’t have a city manager anymore,” Councilmember Cristina Todd said at the Monday, April 27, meeting.
Waters’ appointment followed an executive session during which council had been scheduled to discuss the search for a permanent city manager.
Jones, the former city manager of Southlake, had been serving as alternate city manager following the abrupt resignation of City Manager Mike Mashburn in December, just shy of two years’ tenure with the city.
Mashburn’s contract provided him a base salary of $275,000 per year and a car allowance of $800 per month since he lived outside the city.
