With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mom and grandmother, Gertrude “Trudy” Dowden, who left this world peacefully on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at the age of 91 years. Trudy was a devoted wife to Bobby Dowden for 62 years before his passing in February 2018.
Born on Sept. 26, 1935, in Louisiana, Trudy lived her life full of love, joy and selfless giving to others. Outside of her dedication to her family, Trudy spent her career as a labor and delivery nurse before becoming a nursing instructor at Grambling University. After moving to Texas in 2001, she taught in the nursing program at Collin College. Trudy was a longtime member of East Fork Baptist Church where she enjoyed worshiping and serving her Lord Jesus Christ. After retiring, Trudy loved reading cookbooks, gardening and cooking for and spending time with her family. We had two sayings, “If you leave Mimi’s house hungry, it’s your own fault,” and “If you truly love the meal, get as much as you can, because she won’t make it the same way again.”
Trudy is survived by her four children, Barbara Patrick, Tracie (Gene) Hensley, Chet (Paige) Dowden and Kevin (Carla) Dowden. She was a beloved grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. We were blessed to have had her in our lives.
Trudy is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Christie Ann Dowden; her husband, Bobby Dowden; siblings; and son-in-law, Michael Patrick.
While our hearts ache with our loss, we know that we are forever grateful for the love, memories and lessons Trudy shared with us.
The service will be held at Wilson Chapel, 2205 South Bridgefarmer Road, McKinney, Texas 75069, Saturday, Dec. 5, 2026, at 11 a.m.
