Four candidates file for city council Place 4

by | Mar 5, 2026 | Latest, News

Four candidates have filed to run in May’s special election for a seat on the Princeton City Council.

Place 4 is one of seven at-large council positions representing the entire city. It became vacant when Councilmember Ryan Gerfers resigned in January because of health issues.

Under state law and the city’s home rule charter, an election must be held for Gerfers’ unexpired term because more than 12 months remain in the term expiring in November 2027.

Monday, March 2, was the deadline to file for the special election scheduled for Saturday, May 2.

The candidates who have filed with City Secretary Amber Anderson are Sharad Ramani, Jan Goria, Jaisen Rutledge and Hassan Abdulkareem.

In the filing applications, Ramani said he is self-employed, Goria said she is retired, Rutledge listed his occupation as vice president and Abdulkareem said he was a business professional.

Ramani is a frequent speaker during the public comment section of city council meetings and was an early proponent of returning sewer billing to winter quarter averaging. Rutledge is a former chair of the Princeton Community Development Corporation.

Thursday, April 2, is the last day to register to vote in the election. Early voting begins on Monday, April 20, and continues April 22, 23, 24, 25, 27 and 28.
