Because of a low water pressure event, Culleoka Water Supply Corporation notified customers on Wednesday, May 13, to boil their water prior to consumption such as drinking, washing hands or face and brushing teeth, Culleoka General Manager Greg Williams said.
“Children, seniors and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions,” he said.
According to Williams, the low water pressure was caused by the malfunction of a pump station automation system.
He said the notice was issued in accordance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Title 30 Texas Administrative Code, Subparagraph 290.46 (q)(1).
It requires notification within 24 hours of a triggering event, and out of an abundance of caution.
Williams said that to ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption. He said the water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.
In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
Williams said Culleoka WSC will notify customers when it is no longer necessary to boil the water and that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption.
