City Council is considering the regulation of short-term housing rentals (STR) following discussion of the growing presence of such properties, their potential impacts on neighborhoods and a range of policy options available under Texas law.
During a work session on Monday, April 27, Director of Development Services Shai Roos presented a research overview describing short-term rentals, defined as residential properties rented for less than 30 days, including “entire homes, rooms or accessory units,” commonly listed on platforms such as Airbnb and Vrbo.
Roos said council should evaluate whether the Princeton should maintain its current approach, strengthen regulations or expand or restrict such activity while addressing “neighborhood impacts, revenue opportunities, enforcement capacity — and then what’s the legal framework we would do this under.”
