The new Southard middle school is one of two campuses being worked on to house the growth within PISD.

Campus construction, middle school athletics and projected student populations were the main topics discussed at the Monday, Jan. 22 Princeton school board meeting.

Princeton Independent School District’s newest schools, scheduled to open for the 2019-‘20 school year, are an additional elementary and a second middle school. Part of the 2017 district bond election, Lowe Elementary and Southard Middle School have progressed through the permitting stage via the county and are set to go to the bid process. Lowe will be the fifth elementary for the district.

The district hopes to complete both by June 2019, giving staff about 10 weeks to prepare the buildings for the start of school.

Mark Rauzi with Claycomb Associates Architects also presented an update of construction of roads and parking around Jackie Hendrick Stadium and renovations and parking at the Auxilary Services Building which houses the district’s buses.

The district is in the process of adding an additional competition field for the middle school sports as well as a will bring the fields into compliance with University Interscholastic League standards.
