Harper Elementary School upper grade students were able to enjoy a presentation recently by Hubie Payne, a senior VP engineer at Texas Instruments.

During his presentation, Hubie talked about the different fields of engineering, what jobs are available, the potential earnings, and most importantly, the impact on the future world.

Some engineers research and design projects that result in prosthetic limbs with chips inside, electric wheelchairs, phones, cars, computers, digital cameras, and so on.

Hubie encouraged all the students, especially girls, to focus on school and study in math and science so they may one day have the opportunity to work in the engineering industry.

As a demonstration of engineering capabilities, Hubie invited four volunteers to come on stage for some dribble practice in front of their peers. The basketballs were equipped with computer chips inside to detect how many times they bounced in 20 seconds.

In addition, the volunteer participants received a bluetooth speaker for their participation.

Harper students enjoyed hearing about this career field and are looking forward to more professionals visiting the campus to give them a glimpse into future career options.
