A possible DWI investigation is underway in regards to a school bus accident that occurred Friday, Feb. 16.

A PISD school bus on which 22 students were riding was rear-ended by Gary Lynn Marrs, 54, of Princeton. He was driving a 2006 Green Hyundai Tucson sports utility vehicle.

According to information released by the Princeton Police Department, toxicology results for Marrs’ blood alcohol level are being awaited for from the DPS crime lab. If found to over the legal limit of .008, charges will be filed against him for DWI. Preliminary investigation indicates this could be Marrs’ third DWI.

According to a statement released by the school district, no students were injured in the accident.

FM 982 was shut down in both directions while the driver was extricated from the vehicle due to the severity of the crash.

PHI air medical helicopter landed in the middle of the road and the driver was transported to Medical City of Plano. Though he was severely injured, he survived the crash, according to police.

Another school bus was sent to the accident scene to transport students home. Many parents arrived on scene after news of the accident circulated and parents were able to pick up their children. Students riding the bus were high school age.

According to information, the bus was stopped with the stop signs out to let students exit when the driver rear ended the bus. Students did have their seat belts on while riding the bus. Two students who had stood to exit the bus when the crash occurred were checked out by paramedics on the scene.
