In light of recent incidents, PHS Principal James Lovelady took the opportunity to talk to the student body during a brief assembly to encourage students to think before they post on social media.

Using an activity similar to the wave seen at sporting events, Lovelady demonstrated how quickly things spread using phones and social media. He also discussed the consequences that can come from inappropriate posts.

In addition, he encouraged students to use their social media to promote a positive school climate.

“My mom always said, ‘if you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything at all,'” Lovelady recalled. “But I want to add to that, because I want to encourage you that if you don’t have anything good to say, go a step further and find something positive to say.”

The assembly continued to focus on spreading kindness throughout the school to promote a positive environment.

“You can use your phone for good, and you can use your phone for bad,” he said. “I’m encouraging each of you to do something good with social media.”
